Sutter Sleep Disorders Centers

    At Sutter Sleep Disorders Centers, treating sleep disorders is a team effort. The center team includes experienced doctors who specialize in neurological conditions, breathing problems and other issues that can affect sleep. The team also includes well-trained technologists to conduct tests and knowledgeable staff to help patients and train them on using sleep-aid devices. Sutter Sleep Disorders Centers in Sacramento and Roseville offer a full complement of doctors, technologists and staff to ensure each patient receives personal attention and individually tailored care.

    Medical Director Lydia Wytrzes, M.D. is board-certified in both neurology and sleep medicine. Dr. Wytrzes' interest in sleep medicine became focused while receiving fellowship training and conducting brain physiology research at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, which included working with patients in the university's sleep lab. As a neurologist, she works with patients with sleep disturbances that include insomnia, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, parasomnias such as night terrors and sleep walking, and other sleep issues related to the brain and central nervous system. Dr. Wytrzes received her medical training at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine and served residencies in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and in neurology at the University of Massachusetts. In addition, she received fellowship training in EEG and neurophysiology at the University of Washington Medical Center. Dr. Wytzres is a member of the American Sleep Disorders Association and American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

    Associate Medical Director Bradley Chipps, M.D. founded the Sutter Sleep Center in 1984 after becoming interested in sleep during his fellowship in pediatric respiratory disease at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Chipps has remained active with the program since its inception, helping patients of all ages deal with sleep apnea, including babies with apnea of infancy that has been linked to sudden infant death syndrome. Dr. Chipps is board certified in allergy and immunology and in pediatrics with a subspecialty in pulmonology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He also specializes in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. Dr. Chipps received his medical, residency and internship training at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

    Associate Medical Director Shawn Aghili, M.D. works with patients in the Roseville location undergoing testing and treatment for sleep apnea. In his pulmonology practice, Dr. Aghili helps patients diagnosed with sleep apnea to find comfortable solutions that improve their ability to achieve restful sleep. Dr. Aghili is board certified in internal medicine with a pulmonary medicine subspecialty and in sleep medicine.

    James Nishio, M.D. treats patients with sleep apnea from his Sacramento practice. Dr. Nishio is board certified in internal medicine with subspecialties in pulmonary and critical care medicine and was among Sacramento's first doctors to become board certified in sleep medicine. Dr. Nishio received his medical education at the University of CA, San Francisco and his residency training at the University of Michigan.

    David Groza, RPSGT, RCP, BS EEE
    Sutter Sleep Center Manager David Groza has been with Sutter since 1985, working first as a respiratory care practitioner (RPC) with neonatal and pediatric patients before moving into sleep medicine. His interest in sleep medicine began during the time researchers were drawing the connection between infant sleep apnea and sudden infant death syndrome. Groza's interest led him to working at the Sutter Sleep Center, beginning as a registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT) before moving into management. Groza also holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical and electronics engineering from CA State University Sacramento.

    Myrza Perez is a fellowship trained pediatric pulmonologist and is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology. She is a member of the American Thoracic Society and a member of the American College of Chest Physicians.

    Her practice focuses on a wide variety of pediatric pulmonary care, and has a special interest in pediatric sleep disorders. She also treats asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis, chronic respiratory failure, stridor, recurrent pneumonia and flexible bronchoscopy.

    Dr. Perez earned her medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric internship and residency from Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in New York. Dr. Perez completed a pediatric pulmonology fellowship from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is fluent in Spanish.

    Amer Khan, M.D. is board certified in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology. His professional interests include pediatric sleep medicine and general child neurology including epilepsy and headaches.

    Dr. Khan received his medical degree from the University of Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Cook County Children’s Hospital, Chicago, and Fellowship in pediatric neurology at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, Minneapolis. With each new patient, Dr. Khan collaborates with the child and family to explore all their concerns and neurological symptoms. He works with them in creating an individualized plan of treatment with the goal of improving their quality of life. Dr. Khan offers many cutting-edge treatment options, including ones for headaches, epilepsy, sleep disorders and spasticity.

    Dr. Khan is an active member of the Child Neurology Society, the American Academy of Neurology and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He has been a Sacramento resident for more than eight years.
